  1. Congrats on your big 100. Did anything exciting happen the moment you posted it, like sirens or raining confetti? Did your computer light-up like a slot machine?

Did the Blog Fairy leave some loose change under your pillow?

Actually, forget all that business. The real question I’ve been meaning to ask you… Who is that hot chick reading the book on your main blog picture? She looks damn near identical to a girl I use to go with, no bullshit.

  2. Thank you Cadet.

"Did anything exciting happen the moment you posted it, like sirens or raining confetti? Did your computer light-up like a slot machine?"

It gave me an electric shock and shut itself down. May be a hint.

"Who is that hot chick reading the book on your main blog picture?"

I don't know if I should tell you....

Even with some research I'm not entirely sure. It is probably Agatha Couture. The image is from Jean-Luc Godard's Film Socialisme.

Thanks for the comments you've left over the past months too.

  5. Stephen, I agree with the other commentors--congratulations and this site is awesome (I kinda lump Checking On My Sausages with Things That Don't Suck-extremely intellectual and thoughtful without making us readers feel like dumbshits, and just all around fun reading)!
Just got home from work, saw this and HAD to check your thoughts on A.I. before hitting the sack. So very well written. Saw it in the theater and fell in love (it brought tears to my eyes at the end) and was puzzled by the "ehhh" reviews and response. Not perfect, but interesting on many levels, which I'll take any time.
And I thought the ending (the "after humans" part) was stunning, the best cinematic visualization of the concept of "hard sci-fi" I've ever seen.
Again Thanks, and here's to a hundred more posts! Rob

  6. Thank you very much indeed Rob.

I know Things That Don't Suck but I haven't really read any of it.

    I think A.I. is excellent.

"And I thought the ending (the "after humans" part) was stunning, the best cinematic visualization of the concept of "hard sci-fi" I've ever seen."

What's really interesting about it for me is the steps it implies in between A.I.'s present and future (and it completes the circle of people/things created to provide and receive love).

  7. Stephen,

This is a remarkable landmark. I can't believe it's only been 100 posts (almost all of which I'm fortunate to have read), because there has been so much debate and discussion here that it feels like COMS has been around for a decade!

A phenomenal effort, my friend. This is the place where you can be sure you'll get strong opinions.

    My top 5:

    1. A Wounded America : Bad Lieutenant and Southland Tales
    2. Citizen Kane
    3. In Praise of Godard
    4. Taxi Driver - Writing while Watching and obviously
    5. The series on Dekalog

    Bravo, Author!!!

  8. Thank you JAFB!

I'm glad I've received so many interesting comments, and sometimes fully-fledged discussions and debates, that have improved the pieces.

The top 5 you chose are among my favourites too (there aren't that many I'm really happy with). The number 1 is my favourite too and I thoroughly enjoyed doing the Taxi Driver experiment.

    Thanks again.

  9. A major accomplishment Stephen! I'm happy to have been at least in some measure a part of the readership here. It's been a place of high fallutin creativity and the spirit to express convictions that may not always be embraced by the general blogger population. I agree that it seems you done way more than 100 posts, but each one is thorough and challenging.

Obviously the CITIZEN KANR posting was one of the most courageous ever attempted in the blogosphere, and the best films countdown masterful. It's been a real pleasure my friend!
