Richard Kelly is making films like no one else - no-holds barred intelligent, funny, fun, spiritual films.

Southland Tales and The Box are the kind of film Darren Aranofsky's The Fountain tried to be. It's so... dense and so acutely-observed (especially the invocation of the theme of excretion). I double Sam's comment on this one being one of your best. The lead-in is compelling and the thematic examination is fecund and cogent. I am particularly a fan of Herzog's film, which pairs two artists who seem made to work together! Though, as with most films I enjoy or get carried away by, I didn't think of the actors only the people.

I found it hard to follow as well. Even after a third viewing there are little details that I am not sure on. I do think that's the point both in terms of showing a world with no clear direction and Kelly trying to make a film about everything.Stephenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07036103762441216161noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8035434747786768960.post-82130285248937875932010-10-15T23:50:54.033+01:002010-10-15T23:50:54.033+01:00This...was...depressing...

I've watched it a few times, but somehow it never completely works for me, but I still find it very noble. SMG as Krysta is perfection, heck most of the actors are at their best here (who'd a thunk Sean William Scott could be so moving, so melancholy?). What the film does right is all the points you mention, but on viewing it, everything becomes so chaotic (and cameo-filled)that it's tough to follow. Or maybe that was the point?AKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02084216883655540363noreply@blogger.com
